Orientation at DEİK for Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum

27 October –Mr. Eren Paykal, Turkey-Africa Business Councils Regional Coordinator from DEİK briefed our students about their duties during the Forum.

Presentation at ASMEA

28 October, Washington, D.C. - AFRİKAM Director Prof. Dr. Sedat Aybar made a presentation on 'Foreign Policy Impulsion from Geo-Political to Geo-Economics' at the 9th Annual Conference of the Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA).

Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum Attended

Turkey hosted the Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum in November 2-3, 2016 in İstanbul. Istanbul Aydın University students from various African countries assumed the role of facilitator for business to business meetings and worked as interpreter in this highly prestigious event.

Turkey-Horn of Africa Strategic Dialogue Program

Prof. Dr. Sedat Aybar, AFRİKAM Director, moderated the Turkey-Horn of Africa Strategic Dialogue Program, organized by TASAM Africa Institute and Horn of Africa Studies Center, on the 24th of December 2016.

Africa Week Organized by Turkish Airlines

AFRIKAM coordinated the participation of IAU Students from African countries attended Africa Week organized by Turkish Airlines and the close meeting with the Director of Turkish Airlines Social Responsibility Projects Department.

Support to the Turkish Airlines' Computer Classes in Africa Project

Two of our students, on from Tanzania and the other from Democratic Republic of Congo took part voluntarily in the Computer classes project, implemented by Turkish Airlines in a certain number of African countries. Our students attended the trainer training in December 5.

Turkey-Guinea Business and Economy Forum Attended

AFRIKAM coordinated the participation of IAU Students from African countries to Turkey-Guinea Business and Economy Forum, organized by DEIK, with the participation of the President of Guinea and accompanying business delegation, on the 28th of December, at Conrad Hotel. Our students provided interpretation services during business to business meetings during the Forum.

Seminar on Doing Business in Africa

Mr. Tamer Taşkın, Coordinating Chairman of Turkey-Africa Business Councils at DEIK gave a seminar on the business environment in Africa and shared his experiences with regard to entrepreneurship with our students on the 8th of March.

African Studies Student Congress

AFRIKAM organized African Studies Student Congress on the 19th of April 2017, at Florya Campus. Young students and researchers in Turkey gathered together and shared their most recent works on Africa, to establish new collaborations and networks to improve Africa studies in Turkey. 

Congress was started with the opening speech of Prof. Dr. Yadigar İzmirli, Rector of Istanbul Aydın University. Mr. Tamer Taşkın, Coordinating Chairman of Turkey-Africa Business Councils and Hakan Aydın, Director of Africa Studies Application and Research Center at Kırklareli University gave speeches at the openning session, which was moderated by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sedat Aybar.

Twenty students from Anadolu, Ankara, Ege, Hitit, Istanbul Aydın, Koç, Marmara and Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli, Uludağ and Trakya Universities, entitled to attend the Congress made presenetations during the sessions "Africa Delili of Bandırmalı- Zâde Mehmed Muhsin", "Turkey-Africa Relations under Turkey's Foreign Policy Towards Africa", "African Trade & Business", "Macro Economic Performance in Africa", "State and Region Building in Africa", "Social and Cultural Perspectives".

23rd Commemoration of the Genocide Against Tutsis

23rd Commemoration of the Genocide perpetrated against Tutsis was hosted by Istanbul Aydın University Africa Application and Research Center, in cooperation with the Rwanda Embassy in Ankara, on the 10th of May 2017.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sedat Aybar, AFRIKAM Director has also attended the ceremony and the march organied by Keçiören Municipality and made a speech to commemorate the Genocide against Tutsis.
