African Students Are Meeting the Business World

The number of students, coming from African countries to Turkey for higher education, has exceeded three thousand per year. Five hundred of them are studying at Istanbul Aydın University. On the one hand ensuring socialization of these young African population, who came to Turkey for education, with Turkish society, on the other hand providing that Turkish and African business world benefit from these young people who learn both Turkish language and the Turkish community with their education experiences gained in our country appear as two important subjects. Starting from this determination, Africa Application and Research Center is throwing African students and Turkish business world together with a series of activities it carried out.

Nigerian and Cameroonian master's degree students from IAU attended Nigeria Eko Atlantic Construction and Real Estate Projects Introductory Meeting organized by Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) Nigeria Works Council on 15 October 2015. The students found the opportunity of meeting and networking with Pierre Edde, Business Development Director at South Energyx that developed the project in question, and the Turkish companies prior to the meeting at issue, and then participated in the project presentation meeting and private meetings organized immediately after.

We participated in the Business Opportunities in Uganda and Tanzania panel organized by Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD) in cooperation with DEİK on March 24. Our students were informed about the dynamics of bilateral relations while also getting opportunity to get closely acquainted with the business world at the meeting which was made with the participation of the business people doing business with Africa.

Turkey hosted the Turkey-Africa Economy and Business Forum in Istanbul on the dates of 2-3 November 2016. Istanbul Aydın University students from different African countries took part in the bilateral meetings held within the scope of this forum and gave support by making translations.

We participated in the African Week held at the Turkish Airlines Central Office together with African IAU students on December 5. Two of our students took part in the event and a closed-door meeting was conducted that brought the African students and the Director of Turkish Airlines Social Responsibility Projects Department together.

We participated in Turkey-Guinea Business and Economy Forum, that was participated by the President of Guinea and the accompanying business people delegation and organized by DEİK at Conrad Hotel on December 28, with our African students. Our students made translation for the bilateral meetings conducted between firms within the scope of Forum.

The event titled The Business World-African Students Meeting was organized in parallel with African Studies Student Congress. The institution representatives of the firms and private sector that do/plan to do business with Africa and want to employ students from African countries within this framework, participated in the event.
