Students in this course will develop a leadership kit to use throughout their careers, in fields ranging from business and education to government. Students will learn and apply leadership strategies for working with diverse colleagues, making decisions and problem solving, motivating others, implementing change, and understanding how culture affects leadership effectiveness. The program begins with an assessment of each student's leadership style and strengths and provides an opportunity to apply material learned to real-life situations.
Course Description:
The primary purpose of this course is to familiarize students with contemporary leadership theories and perspectives within a variety of contexts. Each student will develop a more complete and holistic philosophical and theoretical leadership framework.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
demonstrate an understanding of their personal leadership style
apply and integrate fundamental leadership concepts into a variety of situations
evaluate leadership effectiveness within different contexts
think critically about innovative leadership styles
demonstrate communication effectiveness, conflict management, and negotiation skills
exhibit culture awareness and identify its impact on leadership
