Purpose and Content

The aim of the course	This course aims to improve effective use of literary sources (e.g. short stories, novels, poems and plays) in the language classroom and help students develop their own classroom materials.
Course Content	Language teaching focuses on the use of literature; Analysis of samples of poems and plays selected from English and American literary works and works originally written in English and the features that distinguish these two genres from other literary genres; activities to draw attention to the content of literary texts; the use of poetry and theater play and the teaching of cultural elements: objects and products in the main and target language and culture in comparative and contrasting perspectives; proverbs and idioms, stereotypes with cultural values; social structures, roles and relationships; traditions / customs; beliefs, values, prohibitions and taboos, superstitions specific to societies; political, historical and economic self-history; cultural institutions; figurative / associative connotation, use of humor.

Learning Outcomes

Define the basic notions and approaches in the instruction of English language teaching (ELT).
Identify the relationship between the main concepts in ELT and the instructional practice.
Correlate the concepts of the field of ELT and the teaching profession.
Recognize the methods of production of scientific cognition.
Interpret the relationship between the language education and the culture.
Exemplify instructional programs, strategies, methods and techniques relating to the instruction of English language teaching.
Classify students’ capacity, habits or difficulties in acquiring a foreign language.
Clarify the concepts and the processes relating to Enlish language teaching at large.
Develop skills for idenfiying problems and proposing solutions to the problems in ELT.
Appreciate the understanding and the analysis of the concepts and the processes relating to language instruction.
Apply the most appropriate instructional strategies, methods and techniques by contemplating the differences in individual learning styles of the students.
Use appropriate materials to provide the optimum instructional efficiency in accordance with the subject field and students’ backgrounds.
Apply the classroom management skills and technologies to promote positive attitude towards English language learning.
Present their own oral or written views and suggestions on English language teaching.
Take full responsibility under any condition.
Design original activities involving the practical use of English in daily life.
Outline individual or team work to solve the problems relating to the profession.
Develop a positive attitude towards acquiring information.
Determine the acquired and further required information on English language teaching.
Apply what is necessary to cope with recent developments and innovations in technology regarding English language teaching.
Participate actively in artistic and cultural activities and field trips.
Use English to follow the national and international developments in the field.
Accommodate self with what is necessary to lead students and the society.
Assist students in developing a positive attitude towards acquiring information on language.
Practice for self improvement and self promotion for professional advancement in the field.
Develop material and resources utilizing the software and the related technology on the instruction of English language.
Develop the tests, evaluation techniques and instruction tools for English language teaching.
