İstanbul Aydın University Turkish Language Teaching, Application and Research Centre (IAU AYDIN TÖMER)
has been successfully teaching Turkish language to foreign students
since 2011. From its early beginnings, AYDIN TÖMER has been hosting
students from all over the world. AYDIN TÖMER aims to teach Turkish to
foreign students using the best educational methods possible by
implementing the "The Common European Framework of Reference for
Languages (CEFR)".
Aydın TÖMER has been successful in taking its
place among the top institutions teaching Turkish to foreign students in
a short amount of time due to its skilled faculty members, whose real
jobs are teaching and who have received at least a master's degree in
their related fields. Always keeping the quality of teaching at a
maximum possible, the experienced teachers of AYDIN TÖMER, may it be
in-class lessons or individual lessons, lead the class using the latest
technologies and new methods of teaching and techniques such as
transferring, acting, creative drama, group debates, presentations and
project based learning.
One of the most amazing cities to live in
Istanbul, with its historical architectures, cultural touch and with
its artistic centers, increases its foreign population every day. Known
for its welcoming and friendly people, learning Turkish in Istanbul has
the advantage of visiting the most famous and historical sites in the

Free of charge Turkish Language Courses for IAU Erasmus+ Incoming students
Everyone
who has ever been abroad for a study exchange knows: the first weeks
are the hardest ones. Especially at the beginning of an international
educational experience, most of us feel a bit awkward to actively use
the new language. The unusual challenge to organize your university
matters, accommodation conditions or to buy daily life stuff speaking
another language is often complicated and needs some practice.
Fortunately
IAU Erasmus+ Office is aware of this fact and has organized in
cooperation with AYDIN TÖMER teachers a language and culture preparation
programme for the Erasmus+ Incoming students as follows:
During the Fall Semester Orientation Programme: a Free Intensive Certificate Based Turkish Language Course with 4 ECTS (all students are automatically enrolled for it prior to their arrival)
During the Fall Semester and Spring Semester: a free
Turkish Language Course to all Erasmus+ Students with 5 ECTS. Students
wishing to enroll for this course should add it to their Learning
Agreement in order for us to ensure full recognition of it and mention
it in their final Transcript of Records.

During the Fall Semester Orientation Programme
Free Turkish Language Crash Course
Prerequisite: No previous knowledge of Turkish required
Erasmus+
incoming students joining this Turkish crash course during each Fall
Semester Orientation Programme can enjoy their classes with their active
and experienced teachers without feeling bored. Aside from classes, the
students can become more socially active with IAU Erasmus+ Team and ESC IAU team’s cultural activities in the campus and more! With the
countless activities going on during the orientation programme,
experiencing the Turkish culture becomes so much fun and vivid.
By the end of this course, the students will:
- be able to comprehend basic sentences in Turkish;
- be able to produce basic sentences for introducing and describing themselves, carrying on daily simple conversation;
- have
and use basic Turkish vocabulary range and will be able to conjugate
for case, person and basic tenses (present continuous);
During the Fall Semester and Spring Semester
TLL104 Introduction to Turkish Language and Turkish Culture
Credits: 5 ECTS*
Prerequisite: No previous knowledge of Turkish required
The
course is designed for students who are interested in learning Turkish
language and culture, and who have no previous knowledge of it. This
course mainly introduces the student to Turkish language through the
development of basic skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing.
The ultimate goal of the course is to help the students gain awareness,
appreciation and insight into Turkish language and culture.
Each
lesson is an integrated one of both language and culture combining
Turkish language learning with cultural activities involving the
lecturer and the students. The activities will include questions about
Turkish culture and society, music, films and Turkish traditions.
By the end of this course, the students will:
- be able to comprehend simple sentences in Turkish;
- be
able to speak Turkish at beginners’ level, producing sentences for
introducing and describing themselves, carrying on daily conversation,
asking for information and assistance, etc.
- have and use basic
Turkish vocabulary range and will be able to conjugate for case, person
and basic tenses (present continuous);
- have developed and used
language learning strategies that will help not only with improving
their Turkish but with learning other languages, too.
TLL 105 Turkish Language and Culture
Credits: 5 ECTS*
Prerequisite: Passing the TLL104 Introduction to Turkish Language and Culture
The
course is designed for students who are interested in learning Turkish
language and culture, and who have passed the TLL104 Introduction to
Turkish Language and Turkish Culture and/or the Free Intensive Turkish
Language Course. This course mainly introduces the student to
intermediate Turkish language through the development of basic skills:
listening, reading, speaking and writing. The ultimate goal of the
course is to help the students gain appreciation and insight into
Turkish language and culture.
Each lesson is an integrated one of
both language and culture combining Turkish language learning with
cultural activities involving the lecturer and the students. The
activities will include questions about Turkish culture and society,
music, films and Turkish traditions.
By the end of this course, the students will:
- be able to comprehend complex structures in Turkish;
- be able to speak Turkish and pre- intermediate level, producing sentences for carrying on meaningful conversation;
- be
able to use a wide range Turkish vocabulary and will be able to
conjugate for case, person and complex tenses (present perfect tense,
past tenses, future tenses);
- have developed and used language
learning strategies that will help not only with improving their Turkish
but with learning other languages, too.
*Incoming students need to add the TLL104 and/or TLL105 Turkish language courses to their LA in order to benefit from the 5 ECTS offered by the course.
