Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The aim of this course is to teach the students the types of interpretation, the environments in which these types are performed, interpretation techniques and methods of dealing with the difficulties encountered in translation, and to prepare the students for the types of interpretation they will encounter in future modules such as two-way interpreting, consecutive interpretation, and simultaneous translation. The course also aims to develop students' knowledge of terminology in different fields.
Course Content The aim of this course is to teach the students the types of interpretation, the environments in which these types are performed, interpretation techniques and methods of dealing with the difficulties encountered in translation, and to prepare the students for the types of interpretation they will encounter in future modules such as two-way interpreting, consecutive interpretation, and simultaneous translation. The course also aims to develop students' knowledge of terminology in different fields.

2Basic principles of interpreting (undestanding, analysis & re-expression)
3Active listening exercises Understanding: anticipating the meaning of unknown vocabulary
4Active listening exercises Analysis: analsis of speech type, identification of main ideas, analysis of links, memory)
5Active listening exercises Re-expression
6Note taking for consecutive interpreting (abbreviations, symbols, links tenses,etc)
7Note taking practice and reading notes back
