Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The aim of this course is to enable the evaluation of texts according to their purpose and to become integrated with the text at a level high enough to reconstruct it and to be able to position it in a short period of time.
Course Content The resources and strategies the translator has recourse to in the process of reading a text are researched and texts in Russian are studied. The students are prepared for translating texts from source language to target language by working on various example texts of varying difficulty of various text types.

3The constitutive elements of texts: Subject, genre, context, consistency, assumed kowledge (degree of accessibility), wording patterns etc.

5The analysis process: Steps, priorities, the wholistic view
6The quality and importnce of knowledge of texts with regard to the translator profile
7The concept of culture and examples of layers of translated culture
8Making the activities of reading, seeing, understanding transparent, the role of personal culture, public culture, cultural culture in the comprehension and perception processes.
9The definitons of source text and objective text with examples.
10Types of text and the roles of these types in communication, the influence of the text types on the context of translation in the translation process. The translation context of a text and the importance of the objective audience in the translation process.
11Translation research methods, introduction to parallel text studies.
12Possible different translations of a source text, translation context.
13The analysis of various texts with the aim of translation based on the students' homeworks.
14The comparison of the features of different types of text.
