Purpose and Content

The aim of the course To provide the subject analysis to be made by relaying the historical background, myths and the symbols of the works of art such as painting, sculpture, reliefs,and mosaics within the Eastern and Western History of Art.
Course Content Following the introduction of the basic principles and concepts of the iconograhic method, the periods of primeval ages, Sumerians, all the ancient Anatolian Civilisations, Ancient Egypt, ancient Greek and the Old and the New Testament are approached from an artistic view point with examples. The philosophy, story, mythology, and the civilisation which they are based on are examined thoroughly and the iconographic analysis is explained by giving examples.

4Ancient Greek Period; Creation of the Universe and Creation of the Human according to Greek Mythology - Gods and their symbols
5Ancient Greek Period;- Legends; Trojan War, Odyssey, the Golden Fleece - Their symbols
6Old Testament; Creation - Noah's Ark and the flood - symbols
7Old Testament; Abraham and his children - Sodom and Gomora - Legends and Symbols
8Old Testament; Moses and the Jewish religion - Miracles and symbols
9Old Testament; Solomon and David - Legends and symbols
10New Testament; Life cycle of John the Baptist - iconographic analysis scene by scene
11New Testament; Life cycle of Mother Mary - iconographic analysis scene by scene
